The statement, dated June 6, was distributed via the group’s website and other online sites used to release its communiqués.
The document reads, in part:
In the interest of protecting the project of jihad from being torn apart, and to avoid the spilling of Muslim blood, and with the intention of silencing the enemy and not disappointing the mujahidin, and to cut off the path to corruption before the lackeys of the occupiers:By God’s grace and mercy, an agreement has been reached between the Islamic Army in Iraq and the al-Qa'ida in Mesopotamia organization, concluded on the basis of the following:
1) The immediate cessation of all military operations between the two parties and an unequivocal end to abduction operations, and the end of all forms of escalation between the two parties, including escalation in propaganda.
2) The formation of an acceptable judicial committee, to rule on all outstanding matters between the two parties.
The community, praising God firstly and lastly on this agreement, will commend the news to all those who sincerely seek reconciliation and the prevention of factionalism.
The statement ends by highlighting the “work” of the “mujahidin,” and the “their responsibility before their lord and their community” to work against those who “seek to corrupt the project of jihad.”
The two groups have had a public dispute in recent weeks, culminating in armed clashes in Western Baghdad that lasted at least two days.
Accounts conflict over the details of the fighting between the two groups and the extent of outside involvement.
