BODY COUNT
Baghdad Burning
Photos Capture The Horror of A Single Day

Sunni groups have detonated bombs against civilians killing more than 200 people and injuring over 250. The worst event was the bombing of a market in the predominantly Shiite suburb of Sadriya. At least 140 people were killed and another 150 wounded. The worst single suicide bombing since the US occupation began.

The World Health Organisation reported on Tuesday that Iraq’s hospitals are so dysfunctional that “70 percent of all critically injured patients with violence-related wounds die in emergency and intensive care units due to a shortage of competent staff and a lack of drugs and equipment”.
