Pentagon Mobilizing 13,000 Reserve Troops
National Guard Units to Begin Deploying at Year's End
04/09/2007 1:17 PM ET
The Pentagon has alerted four National Guard reserve units that they will be deployed to Iraq starting in December 2007, the DoD announced on Monday.

According to the Pentagon press release, the final determination of whether these units will deploy will be made based on conditions on the ground in Iraq, but "they are receiving alert orders now in order to provide them the maximum time to complete their preparations."

Reuters reports that some of the National Guard soldiers will face deployment well before the target of five years at home for every year reserve troops are mobilized, though cite a Pentagon spokesman saying some two-thirds of the soldiers had not previously been deployed.

The Guard units affected by Monday's announcement are the 9th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Little Rock, Arkansas, the 45th Infantry Brigade of Oklahoma City, the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Indianapolis and the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of Columbus, Ohio.
