The Baghdad airport: mortar fire rains down on it, a few traumatized passengers cry and scream hysterically, and many more swig Red Bull and chain smoke as if there's no tomorrow -- and perhaps there won't be for some.
So was the scene one day this week.
Yet amid the machine gun-toting guards, the dozens of wild birds fluttering about the passenger terminal, and the shredded carpet, there's a stunning sight: a shimmering Harley Davidson Road King Classic.
It's showcased in the Iraq Duty Free store -- a 4,000 square foot island of plush high-end shopping in an airport terminal otherwise fit for the junk heap.
The employees at the shop were skittish about having the Harley photographed because they wanted to ensure none of the shop's workers were seen in the picture -- the easier for insurgents and kidnappers to pinpoint them.
So here's the scoop on the Harley: it's being raffled off.
After the store sells 1,000 tickets for $30 each, it'll draw a single ticket, and ship the bike to the winner anywhere on the planet.
