US forces freed over 200 kidnapped Iraqis Tuesday in villages in Muqdadiya district, Diyala Province, Buratha News reports in Arabic.

Most of the captives were said to be from the Iraqi police.

An anonymous source in the Diyala police confirmed that US forces, in the course of their redeployment near the villages in of Ishqiraq and Salsil, near to Muqdadiya city, had undertaken wide raids and searches of the surrounding agricultural areas, searching for al-Qa'ida members who were active in the area, Buratha reports.

The source added that the US forces found several detention facilities belonging to al-Qa'ida, inside of which were more than 200 prisoners.

The majority of the captives were members of the police forces who had been taken captive over the last months, according to the source.

US and Iraqi forces are implementing a security plan in the restive Diyala Province, as IraqSlogger has reported.
