Now, both the American Arabic-language broadcaster Radio Sawa and the SCIRI-affiliated Buratha News have both reported on Abu 'Omar's capture, according to a recent update on Buratha News.
Radio Sawa cites "reliable sources" that Baghdadi has been captured, according to the Buratha report.
While formal confirmation has not been rendered, Radio Sawa has suggested that the leader of the militant Sunni organization Islamic State of Iraq, known by the nom de guerre Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, may in fact be the very same person as Muharib al-Jabouri, captured yesterday in the northern Iraqi city of Dhuluiya.
Buratha news earlier reported Monday that "knowledgable sources" had informed the news agency of al-Baghdadi's capture in the Baghdad neighborhood of Dora, along with four others.
According to the sources, a formal announcement of al-Baghdadi's arrest will be issued in "the coming hours," Buratha reported.
This is the second day that reports have emerged of al-Baghdadi's capture. Yesterday, a report surfaced that he had been captured in Dhuluiya, which was then dismissed as mistaken. However, if the Radio Sawa report is correct, that conclusion may be under revision.
Slogger will continue to follow this story as it develops.
