02/16/2007 9:29 PM ET
Hit, Feb 16, (VOI)- U.S. forces on Friday afternoon imposed a four-day curfew on the western Anbar city of Hit, city residents said.

"U.S. army vehicles declared today afternoon through loudspeakers a curfew for four days on vehicles and persons in Hit city and warned residents against violating the order," a city resident told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on the phone.

Another resident told VOI, "the city residents kept indoors as shops were closed while the city streets were empty of vehicles and pedestrians save the U.S. vehicles that were roaming all parts of the city."

On Friday morning, there was no sign of whatsoever that would indicate a possible curfew on the Sunni city of Hit, 180 km west of Baghdad, the first resident said.
